Fresh new pop music ruled New York City on Friday night at SUPERFRAICHE at a sold out Galapagos Art Space in New York City with performances by newcomers Sky Ferreira, Simon Curtis, Databoy and She's The Queen. After curating shows in Los Angeles and Atlanta, I partnered with GUMBO NYC to bring SUPERFRAICHE back to the Big Apple. (Click here for some amazing photos of the night.)

I launched SUPERFRAICHE two years ago to produce a unique live music experience for pop fans and to bring my blogs tips to the stage in a creative new way. Friday's installment of SUPERFRAICHE accomplished exactly that.

Pop fans were eagerly awaiting the very first headlining performance of Sky Ferreira who I introduced as one of "pop brightest new stars." Not only is Ferreira a talented actress and songwriter, she is also an impressive vocalist whose stage delivery captured an authentic and relatable quality that is truly compelling. Ferreira performed tracks from her new EP "As If!" ("Traces," "108" "Sex Rules") plus she performed her U.K. hit "One."

Online music sensation Simon Curtis made his very first trip to New York to perform at SUPERFRAICHE. Curtis is a born showman, bringing a poise and intensity to his performance that had the crowd captivated from beginning to end. The L.A. based singer performed songs from his last "8Bit Heart," plus tracks from his forthcoming new album "RΔ" including the radio-ready "Enemy" and "Pit Of Vipers." As a nod to his idol Britney Spears, he wowed the audience with an acapella version of "Baby, One More Time." Yes! Wow!

Austin friends Databoy served up a totally fun set of party-starting electro-pop that was peppered with synchronized dance moves. So much fun to watch. Cameron Maxwell and Adam Bailey are currently working with people like Cutfather and Josh Harris to develop material for their next release. They're a duo to keep your eye on.

She's The Queen's Drew Kuryloski and Emily White amped up the crowd with their sparkly and atmospheric dance pop that was the perfect way to get the audience in the mood for a great night of pop.

What a fantastic night of pop music it was! Click here for some amazing photos of the night. I want to thank all of the fans for coming out on Friday night. Amazing! Also a big thank you to the bloggers and the social media posse that came out to support SUPERFRAICHE including MTV, MTV Buzzworthy, 365Gay, Nik Thakkar, Brad Stern, Jon Ali and the guys from OutSpokenNYC. Big hugs for Gabi Porter for shooting stellar photos of the event. Last but not least, a jumpin' high five to my co-producers Ben Harvey and Casey Fitzpatrick for teaming up and embracing SUPERFRAICHE. Up to the next one!

Stay tuned for details about the next SUPERFRAICHE on July 15.

Pop Newcomers Sky Ferreira, Simon Curtis, Databoy, She's the Queen To Perform at SUPERFRAICHE Concert in New York City on April 1

Superfraiche-apr1

I'm thrilled to announce that after my SUPERFRAICHE shows in Los Angeles and Atlanta, I'm taking my SUPERFRAICHE pop showcase back to New York City! On April 1, I have invited Sky Ferreira, Simon Curtis, Databoy and She's The Queen to perform at my SUPERFRAICHE show that will be held at the dramatic, multi-level Galapagos Art Space in DUMBO, Brooklyn.

SUPERFRAICHE will be organized in conjunction with GUMBO one of the hottest dance parties in New York City that will follow SUPERFRAICHE. Get your dose of fresh new pop and then dance the night away. Get your tickets now.

Quick intro to some of these blazing fresh new pop acts you oughta know:

Sky Ferreira (link)
Confidence and charisma shine through the songs that 18-year-old New York based pop artist Sky Ferreira has been writing and recording for her upcoming Capitol Records debut.  The album is shaping up to be a sparkling collection of electronic pop tunes that combine lustrous melodies with spare and digitized productions by a host of hit-makers such as Bloodshy & Avant (Britney Spears/Kylie Minogue), Greg Kurstin and Dallas Austin.  Sky recently made Entertainment Weekly’s "11 to Watch in 2011" list, is the new face of Calvin Klein’s CK One global campaign, and can be seen in Tommy Hilfiger Denim commercials.  Her EP "AS IF!" will be released on March 22.

Simon Curtis (link)
With over one million downloads of his debut album, “8Bit Heart,” Simon Curtis has quickly become a force to be reckoned with in independent pop music.  He has single-handedly established himself as one of the pioneers of the new era of music industry and become, as MTV.com recently dubbed him, a true "internet sensation."  Simon has managed to captivate the blogosphere and leave his fans around the world in bated breath to see and hear what this former Nickelodeon star will bring them next.

Databoy (link)
Databoy is Cameron Maxwell and Adam Bailey, a 22 year-old duo originally from Austin, TX, currently residing in New York City.  Since their premiere show during SXSW 2010, DATABOY has done numerous performances and showcases in Austin and New York.  In addition to writing all of their own material, DATABOY penned Kim Sozzi’s (3 Billboard Dance #1′s) next single with Josh Harris (Seal, The Killers, Dangerous Muse) and are currently working with Cutfather (Kylie Minogue, The Wanted, Pussycat Dolls) and Enur (“Calabria”) on their own material.  Their debut single, “Stupid,” was released on February 22, 2011.

She’s the Queen (link)
She’s the Queen is an electropop band currently based out of both New York City and Philadelphia.  The group was formed in 2009 and is composed of producer Drew Kuryloski and vocalist Emily White. Once beginning their serious recording as a group, the duo recorded in Drew’s home studio above his garage.  The bands synth-heavy electro/dance rhythms and energetic performances have gained them a substantial global following.

Listen to Sky Ferreira "Sex Rules"

Sky-ferreira-asif

After teasing us with a demo of "Sex Rules" last summer, L.A. pop singer Sky Ferreira released the final version of the song on iTunes today. It's a totally fun and frolicky 80's throwback tune that is a perfect tastemaker for her forthcoming EP "As If." And don't be surprised if you hear "Sex Rules" on a television screen near you. The song is featured in a new Calvin Klein ad campaign that gives Sky some welcome new exposure. Listen (and singalong) to "Sex Rules" and catch my video interview with Sky after the break.

Watch Sky Ferreira "Obsession"

Skyf

Somewhere on the junction of creepy and cute, you will find the video of Sky Ferreira's U.S. debut single "Obsession." The video was directed by Marc Klasfel and features Sky being fanatically obsessed with Tarantino muse Michael Madsen who is mostly known for appearing in films like Reservoir Dogs, Donnie Brasko, Kill Bill and Sin City.

Penned by Ryan Tedder, "Obsession" is not as adventurous and edgy as "One" (Sky's debut track in Europe), but "Obsession" sure is catchy, and will surely race up the charts stateside. Watch the video here

And if you missed my video interview with Sky earlier, make sure to watch it here. Super fun! (Support new pop and download "Obession" on iTunes.)

Listen to Aeroplane feat. Sky Ferreira "Without Lies"

Arjan-aeroplane

Aeroplane is the Belgium DJ/artist duo of Stephen Fasano and Vito Deluca who are mostly known for producing dancefloor-favorite remixes for people like Cut Copy, Grace Jones, MGMT, Bloc Party and Friendly Fires. For their forthcoming artist album, the aptly-titled "We Can't Fly," they collaborated with L.A. based hit songwriter Nicole Morier.

She wrote the subtle synth pop gem "Without Lies" that features a deliciously bouncy bassline and the vocals of her pal and my new girlfriend Sky Ferreira. Morier and Ferreira have collaborated on a bunch of stuff so who knows what will pop up next. Aeroplane's "We Can't Fly" will drop in digital download stores near you later this year. (Listen to "Without Lies" after the jump. - UPDATE: Song was removed from YouTube.)
