Listen to MPHO "Box "N Locks" (Ill Blue Remix)

MPHO (pronounced mmm-poh) has unleashed her debut single "Box 'N Locks" and people are starting to pay attention. Her sublime cover of Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" helped to give her plenty of street cred to be considered one of the most exciting new acts of 2009. (Let's discuss on my Facebook Page.)

People are clamoring to find new MPHO music. I've received a dozen emails over the past week from new MPHO fans wondering when her music will be released in the States. Sit tight. There are no plans yet, but the good stuff will be coming.

To feed your appetite, I found a very rare remix of "Box 'N Locks" that was featured on a radio mix show over in the U.K. It was produced by Ill Blue who adds a banging, big club beat to the original. Perfect for your Saturday night. Stay tuned for more MPHO news on very soon. (If you're in the U.K. you must purchase "Box 'N Locks" now to push her up in the charts. Download it. Show your support!)

This Is Epic! Must-Watch: MPHO "Running Up That Hill"

Wow. MPHO covers Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" and send spills up my spine. It's epic. Even better than Placebo's take. Who knew the spunky "Box 'N Locks" singer had so much soul and pathos up her sleeves. I'm really impressed. MPHO needs to be watched. The big label boys should really this digitally. I want to listen to this over and over again. Enjoy. (Thanks Darren and Steve for turning me on.)

Video Premiere: MPHO "Box 'N Locks"

MPHO is one of the fraichest new pop talents from Europe to look out for this year. Check out the glowing video for her debut single "Box 'N Lock" that features that infectious little guitar riff from Martha and the Muffins' new wave hit "Echo Beach."

The genre-busting singer was born in South Africa and raised in a racially mixed family of musicians and political activists in the UK. Suffice to say that her life story is as colorful as her music. A press release describes that the "overriding theme of both has been MPHO's determination to find her own space, to define herself on her own terms."

"MPHO" will be released in Europe on July 13. The remix package for the track features mixes by Armand Van Helden, Ocelot and Crazy Couzins. The single release will be followed by her debut album, titled "Pop Art," which will be out in the fall. Co-produced and co-written by MPHO, the album features a whole host of contemporary producers and writers from Switch (MIA, Santogold),  and Future Cut (Dizzee Rascal, Kate Nash, Lily Allen) to Rick Nowels (Belinda Carlisle, Andre 3000) and Rob Davis (Kylie). No U.S. release has been set at this time.
