Producers Diplo and Switch are without a doubt some of the most progressive and wildly unique beatmakers on the scene today who continue to push the envelope by liberally mashing forward new sounds and introducing people to a whole new world of music. The two struck an immediate creative chemistry when they first worked together with M.I.A. that led to many experimentations, mixtapes remixes and their debut Major Lazer LP "Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do" in 2009.
Since then, they have continued to work together on remixes and other special projects (including that banging "Lazerproof" mixtape with La Roux), while also independently producing and writing for many other artists. Diplo has whipped up massive new tracks for artists like Chris Brown and Nicola Roberts, and Beyonce sampled the duo's "Pon De Floor" on her new single "Run The World (Girls)."
For the past few months, the duo has been working on their much-anticipated new album, most of which was recorded at Gee Jam Studios in Port Antonio in Jamaica. It seems that the Major Lazer project is an ideal sonic playground for the two friends that allows them to experiment a little more, which helps them to recharge their creative mojo once in a while and continue to be unorthodox in their approach.
The guys share a brief video of their Jamaica experience that features snippets of three new Major Lazer songs -- the first is a collaboration with Jah Dan, the second is the teaming Vybz Kartel (with an incredible guest on the hook) and the third includes Amber & Dave from Dirty Projectors.
Judging from the sites and sounds of this video, Major Lazer has crafted some hella new tunes that we all should look forward to hearing more of. Look out for a preview of Major Lazer's chunky new single "Orginal Don" (ft The Partysquad) on YouTube next week. Ferry Gouw (who is the Creative Director & Illustrator of Major Lazer) has finished the animation for a cartoon pilot with Adult Swim and has begun working on the video for "Original Don."
Watch the video after the break.
