Free MP3 Download: Kay vs Frankmusik "My Name Is Kay" (Remix)

Whoa! You must check out Frankmusik's fresh new remix of Kay's debut single "My Name Is Kay" that he officially titled the "Lost The Damn Gameboy Remix" (which brings out the LOLs). Frank's revamp of Kay's stomping original is one happy-go-lucky brew that will drench your day in sunshine. Pure fun.

Kay is one of the freshest new pop artists to keep your eye. I've blogged about her before and exclusively premiered tracks like "M.A.J.O.R" and the single edit of "My Name Is Kay." For the past few months, Kay has been working with none other than savvy hitmakers Ryan Tedder (of One Republic) and Evan Bogart (Beyonce, Britney Spears, Adam Lambert) to record tracks for her debut album that will be released on Interscope Records.

If you have a moment, you must check out my video interview with Kay and Ryan Tedder. Their goal is to craft a fresh new female pop sound that is unlike anything out in the charts right now. "It is a mix between Outkast, Gwen Stefani and Missy Elliot," Kay told me to describe her music. "We want to bring something that will define pop music next year, not what's being done in the charts now," Tedder added.

Nice! Also, check out Kay's website on which she posts one new pic every day. Go "peep her shizzle." Hilarity. Loving Kay!

Video Interview: Arjan Chats with Kay and Ryan Tedder

Canadian pop newcomer Kay is one of the most exciting new artists to keep your eye on this year. Her giddy, hip hop goosed pop is a mighty fresh new addition to the scene that make her stand out from the pack.

Traveling from her home in Nova Scotia to Los Angeles via London and Vancouver, Kay has been working with chart-topping writers and soundboard wizards like DJ Tiesto, Ryan Tedder (of One Republic), Evan Bogart, Dr Rosen Rosen and Bangladesh to craft a unique, hit-savvy sound of her own.

I posted her brand-new "My Name Is Kay" earlier this week to give you a little taste of Kay. The track is a chunky blend of pop, soul, retro, funk and hip hop that bursts with Kay's upbeat, straight up attitude that will have you tapping along the moment it hits.

Earlier, I chatted with Kay to talk about her music, inspirations and creative process while she was in Denver to record with Ryan Tedder. Totally fun interview. Ryan even makes a cameo (around the 6:50 minute mark) to talk about Kay and the music they have been working on. Share your thoughts about the video. (Thank you so much Kay and Ryan for making time during your studio time to make some time to chat.)

Watch. Share. Like. Re-play.

Ready to Pop: Kay "My Name Is Kay"

Mynameiskay

Once in a while a new artist emerges who brings a fresh new spark to the scene. Kay is one of those newcomers who serves up a distinctly different take on pop. I first introduced you to Kay when I featured "M.A.J.O.R" (produced by Dr Rosen Rosen) that gave us a hint of the direction she's heading in.

For the past few months, Kay has been working with none other than savvy hitmakers Ryan Tedder (of One Republic) and Evan Bogart (Beyonce, Britney Spears, Adam Lambert) to record tracks for her debut album that will be released on Interscope Records.

I spoke with Kay and Ryan a couple of weeks ago in Ryan's Denver studio to talk about their collaboration and upcoming new music. Really fun video interview that I will be posting next week.

In anticipation of the video interview, check out Kay's brand-spanking new "My Name Is Kay" to get a taste of what she's been up to. The track was co-written and produced by Ryan Tedder and Evan Bogart.

Driven by hard stomping groove, "My Name Is Kay" is a blast of fresh energy that is masterfully produced by Tedder & Co. The song delivers a steady dose of girl power and does exactly what Kay set out to. She raps and sings to let the world know in unambiguous terms that she has arrived. You better move out of the way for Kay. She's planning to stick around for a while. Totally fun. (Follow Kay on Twitter and Facebook.)

Free MP3 Download: Kay "Space Girl" feat. Dirty Radio

Kay-canada

A few weeks ago, I introduced you to emerging Interscope artist Kay and her poppin' tune M.A.J.O.R that was produced by the very talented Dr Rosen Rosen. Together with artists like Natalia Kills, Neon Hitch, Sky Ferreira, Colette Carr, Zowie and Jessie J, Kay is part of an exciting new generation of female pop talent who are coming on strong next year.

Check out "Space Girl," a glossy new Kay track that features her Vancouver pal Dirty Radio with whom she collaborated on this production in Los Angeles. Compared to the candy-covered' "M.A.J.O.R.," "Space Girl" shows off a different side of Kay. The tune is a mid-tempo, spunky electro-edged soul number that invokes memories of late '90s R&B. Super slick. Super smooth. Keep the goodness coming Kay!

Ready to Pop: Kay "M.A.J.O.R"

Loving-kay

While today's pop charts continue to be ruled by established artists like Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Ke$ha and Katy Perry, a whole new generation of female pop artists is getting ready for their turn to grab the baton and run with it.

Take for example promising upstarts like Neon Hitch, Sky Ferreira, Collette Car, Zowie and Jessie J who I introduced to you last week. All of them bring a unique style of their own - not modeling themselves after the current ladies in charge.

Another emerging female artist I'm tipping to do big things in pop music next year is Los Angeles-based artist Kay. She is slowly but steadily gearing up to take over the world with her invigorating blend of pop that bursts with confidence and is dominated by her sassy, tease-'till-you-please attitude. She has been out and about across Hollywood, writing and recording material together with some of the hottest new producers for her debut LP to be released on Interscope Records in the near future.

Most of Kay's work is tightly kept under wraps, but listen to the new "M.A.J.O.R." that recently surfaced to get a taste for Kay. In fact, this song neatly defines Kay's edgy brand of pop with a sound and message that explains what she's all about.

Produced by the soundboard-savvy and talented Dr Rosen Rosen, the song features fresh hip pop stylings with an instantly infectious, punctuating dance groove and Kay's straight up lyrics, "We can play a game, but i'm in control. Have you not heard? I'm m-a-j-o-r."

Word, Kay. Tell it like it is.

Interscope has an exciting portfolio of new artists that are still developing their sound and presentation. Judging from "Major," Kay is pretty close to the big time so hopefully we don't have to wait too long before more of her music will be unleashed upon us. The world is ready for something fresh and new, and Kay is one of the people that can deliver.
