Things are shaping up nicely for emerging British pop duo Hurts. The group's debut single, "Better Than Love" is entering the charts around Europe, creating some proper momentum for the release of their debut album later this year. (Click here to download "Better Than Love" for free.)

You may have been swooning over "Wonderful Life" and "Better Than Life," but also make sure check out "Mother Nature," which is the b-side of "Better Than Love." It is an orchestral, moody ballad with a melodramatic chorus that further cements Hurts' reputation as brave purveyors of '80s inspired synth pop. Proper album material.

Theo Hutchcraft and Adam Anderson also show off an immaculate sense of style and fashion. In a recent interview, the group explains how the visual aesthetic of their performance came about. "The music that we make is very bold pop music. And the way we dress, you know, we dress smart, and that comes from a time when you'd go to the dole office, and the only way you could go to the dole office without feeling like you wanna kill yourself when you came out - was by dressing in a suit because they'd take you seriously," Hurts explains.

"And also, I think there's an intensity to men dressing very simply, especially in the context of a pop band, and just allowing the music to be the powerful element. Even when you look at our photos, they're really very simple and that's because, we feel, it gives the music more gravitas, more power.”

Well-said. Right on.

Hurts Reveal Cover Art for New Single

Hurts_Better_Than_Love-2

Flawless! Projecting a stylized scene of curious androgyny, the retro-inspired single art of for Hurts' forthcoming new single "Better Than Love" shows off that the British pop duo not only has a knack for melody but also an exquisite sense of style.

"Better Than Love" has identical sleek production stylings that appear retro in origin, but are forward in execution. Drenched in classic new wave and atmospheric synth pop, Hurts totally reminds of the style and sounds of new romantics like Spandau Ballet, Human League and Visage.

"Better Than Love" tones down the doomy gloomy sensibilities of their previous "Wonderful Life" and displays Hurts' optimistic side with its larger than life lyrics and glistening crescendos towards the end of the song. Fingerlickin' good.

Hurts is all kinds of brilliant.

I alerted you last year about the British duo of Theo Hutchcraft (vocals) and Adam Anderson (synths/guitar) when their '80s throwback tune "Wonderful Life" first surfaced.

Their sparkly new single, titled "Better Than Love," also features a sound that is retro in its origin, yet forward in its execution. Drenched in classic new wave and atmospheric synth pop, Hurts totally reminds of the style and sounds of new romantics like Spandau Ballet, Human League and Visage.  "Better Than Love" tones down the doomy gloomy sensibilities of "Wonderful Life" and shows off Hurts' optimistic side with its larger than life lyrics and glistening crescendos towards the end of the song. It's fingerlickin' good.

In an interview with Manchester City Life, the group explains that their sound can be described as "disco lento" (slow disco). It is a style of '80s pop that surfaced in the wake of italo disco when artists starting to make ballads using the same production stylings.

This new track is getting a major push in the U.K. And deservedly so. The video for the song will premier April 26 and is followed by the official single release on May 24. What do you think of this new Hurt single?

Hot New Talent Alert: Hurts "Wonderful Life"

Hurts

Hurts' stunningly beautiful "Wonderful Life" was first released back in April but it is finally get some traction among pop aficionados everywhere. Hurts is the British pop duo of Theo Hutchcraft (vocals) and Adam Anderson (synths/guitar).

Together they put out a retro-styled pop sound that is drenched in '80s new wave and romanticism. It's that kind of sweet and crunchy pop that takes you right back to '80s pop glory with bands like Ultravox, ABC and Human League.

Biff Stannard (Kylie, Little Boots) recognized the duo's talent and signed Hurts to his Major Label label that is distributed by Sony Music. No indie route for Hurts. Hutchcraft and Anderson skip the line and go straight for the big time.

Listen to Hurts' Wonderful Life" which is accompanied by a video that matches the mood and retro qualities of the song. Love how the pacing beats in the chorus propel into the glistening, synth-heavy chorus. The addition of the saxophone is pure splendor. Very beautiful. Hurts is a band to watch in 2010. (Thanks to Eric for the reminder.)
