Classic deep house and early 1990s dance-pop is making a proper comeback in the charts with the help of acts like Disclosure, Rudimental, Kitchen Party and even global pop superstar Katy Perry who tastefully taps into the genre for her new music. Another act to join to the growing line-up of dance-pop newcomers who add their own dose of 1990s sizzle to well-crafted dance-pop is London production outfit The Writers Block.
The Writers Block is the teaming of producers Detox, Kam and Haile who first met at Westminster University in 2010 and bonded over their love for Michael Jackson, Non Marlet and Chase & Status. The three young Londoners each take their roles in production. "Brit-school-educated Kam plays the keys while Detox and Haile assert their energies to the composition and different musical elements in the production," according to a press release.
One of their first tracks to impact is the sleek house stomper "Dancing In The Dark" that features the soulful vocals of Anouck. She adds a killer melodic hook to The Writers Block flavorful arrangement that is a nod to the classic house while totally fresh and current. Look out for remixes by Will Clarke, Black Magic Disco and Disco Fist who gives "Dancing In The Dark" a nu-disco vibe, slowing down the vocal and adding some 1980s synths.
