Emeli Sandé Talks About Inspirations, Career, Music at ARTIST#TALK in NYC

Arjan-emeli

While in the middle of her North American tour, British superstar singer/songwriter Emeli Sandé made time in her hectic schedule to be the special guest at my ARTIST#TALK on Wednesday evening. Produced in close partnership with HP and Windows, ARTIST#TALK is a live interview event where I sit down with an artist to talk about his or her career, inspirations and music. This week's event was hosted at the Beats by Dre Store in Soho to celebrate HP's new products that are powered by Windows 8 and feature Beats Audio technology.

Looking radiant in red, Emeli talked at length about her success in the U.K. (her debut album "Our Version Of Events" was the best-selling album of 2012), her love for Nina Simone, her creative partnership with rapper Naughty Boy and her move from rural Scotland to London to pursue a career in music. She also talked at length about working in a hospital as a medical student where she saw how people came togethe and trusted her with their stories. These experiences of raw humanity turned out to be a major inspiration for her songwriting.

Check out photos of Emeli and the event of the event on Flickr. Billboard Magazine also shot this very cool Vine video that gives you a quick glance of the event (in fact, it was the very first time Billboard used Vine). I'd like to thank Emeli Sandé  for taking time in her busy schedule to spent time in New York City, all the bloggers and writers that came out to cover the event, HP and Microsoft for their steadfast support of ARTIST#TALK, and the fine folks at Beats by Dre and EMI for all of their support and assistance.

Fans of Emeli Sandé should make sure to tune in to Late Night with David Letterman tonight to watch her performance of her current hit single, "Next To Me."
