French DJ outfit C2C shines in originality with their novel blend of turntablism, hip hop, '70s soul and electro that has made them one of the most respected new dance acts on the thriving Paris club scene. After topping the French album charts with their debut LP "Tetra" earlier this month, C2C's very first claim to fame was winning the World DMC World Championships for turntable DJs four times in a row that helped garner them many new fans and a coveted recording contract.
The four members of C2C met in high school where they started to toy around with vinyl and turntables to developed their own unique DJ style. They decided to turn up the ante and participate in the World DJ team competition to see where their skills would take them. A press release describes that the audience was "astonished by their highly playful yet incredibly precise and spectacular routines," while judges pointed out their "breathtaking technical dexterity and innate musical sensitivity."
Aside from their adventures with C2C, the four members have been very active on the French musical scene as solo artists as well. 20Syl and Greem founded Hocus Pocus and released a gold certified album on Motown while Atom and Pfel collaborated together in hip hop outfit Beat Torrent. Collectively, they boast more than a thousand live performances but they never truly stopped working together and last year they finally reunited to produce C2C’s first album.
In a press release the group explains that they "had to close the loop. "C2C’s true purpose, beyond competition, has always been to produce music, or rather to devise a brand new way to create and perform music," the group says. Moving beyond their days of competition, the group no longer solely relies on borrowed samples and scratches, but has expanded their sonic palette with strings, brass, guitar, bass and keys. Most of these are often played on vintage instruments and equipment to capture "the elusive seventies sound they so cherish." Being true masters of fusion, they also have added vocalists to their productions on "Tetra" to give their sound a poppier vibe
The result is a genre-mashing effort that reaches far beyond their traditional fanbase and has massive potential beyond French borders.
