Things are gearing up very, very nicely for Conor Maynard who is rocketing up the British pop charts with new single "Vegas Girl" and the young pop star will likely shoot to number one with his debut album, "Contrast," that was released in the U.K. this week. I will hold my full review of the record until it's formally released in America this September, but I can already share that I think that "Contrast" is without a doubt one of the best pop records I've heard this year. Combining on-point production work by people like Pharrell, Ne-Yo, Stargate, Benny Blanco and The Invisible Men with Maynard's flawless vocal delivery, "Contrast" is a hit-loaded effort that puts the Brighton singer in pole position for global chart success.

Earlier this week, Maynard stopped by BBC Radio One's Live Lounge studios for an acoustic set, and he reminded us once again of the unquestionable talent that got him noted and signed in the first place. He not only performed "Vegas Girl" and his cover of "Drake's "Crew Love" (that he also performed during his recent American showcases), he also dished out a cover of Nicki Minaj's "Starships" that is mightily impressive.

Maynard skillfully turns the peppy RedOne-production into a moving, guitar-driven pop ballad that perfectly showcases his pitch-perfect and incredibly soulful vocals that will move you. He even pays a brief tribute to the King of Pop and infuses the cover with a bit of "Remember The Time" at the end of the performance. Michael Jackson would have been proud. I guarantee you. It's a must-watch. (If you're in the U.K. do yourself a favor and download "Contrast" on iTunes. Conor Maynard's "Vegas Girl" is available on iTunes in the U.S. now.  Photo via BBC web site)
