April 16, 2012
Many of today's fastest-rising stars first emerged covering other people's songs on YouTube. Think for example about new acts like Karmin and Conor Maynard who built a massive fanbase on the video site before signing a major label recording contract. British singer/songwriter Charlee Drew is one of the latest new talents who has been stirring up a storm of attention with his YouTube covers of popular ditties that have been watched by over a million people worldwide.
Drew's latest greatest contribution to the YouTube cover-sphere is his guitar-driven cover of Carly Rae Jepsen's chart smasher "Call Me Maybe" that he gives a fresh, pop-rocky spin of his own. Performing the tune with his signature colorful guitar, Drew's new rendition of the hit track neatly shows off his catchy pop vocals - he even flawlessly belts out the occasional falsetto while showing off some charming Brit accent. Very nicely done.
This new cover marks the start of a big season for Charlee Drew (who is still unsigned), which includes the release of original material. Look out for his forthcoming single debut, entitled "You Did Me A Favor," that was penned by none other than Matt Marston and Rob Well. They are the production team behind hit songs by Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Backstreet Boys, Alesha Dixon and many others. It's a promising kick off to what's is shaping up to be an exciting pop career for Charlee Drew. Subscribe to Charlee's videos here and make sure to follow him on Twitter.
