A new press release about Emeli Sande's new single "Next To Me" rightfully boasts that the singer's debut album "Our Version Of Events" will be "the sound of 2012" and is a record to own when it drops in the U.K. on February 13. The best news to add to that is that Sande will be releasing her debut record in the U.S. as well a little later this year on Capitol/EMI.
This morning, the powerful vocalist and prolific songwriter shares the video for "Next To Me" that is arguably her most poppy and slick pop effort to date, and follows her previous two singles, "Heaven" and "Daddy."
"Next To Me" could, at first glance, be about a boy, or even be perhaps spiritual in its sentiment. But Emeli explains that it was actually written about music, her biggest love and passion in life that she can count on through thick and thin. "You won’t find him drinking under tables," she sings on the track. "Rolling dice and staying out till 3. You won’t ever find him being unfaithful. You will find him next to me."
The song is another great tastemaker for her debut album that neatly tales the fears, thoughts, heartbreak and hopes of a young women, which will effortlessly appeal to anyone with a love of imagery, imagination and, ultimately, just great songs with heartstopping vocals. The album was written entirely by Sande and produced by her creative partner Shahid Khan.
The opening scene for the freshly-released "Next To Me" video simply pictures the singer alongside her piano in an empty hangar that perfectly underlines that Sande's music can light up a room no matter how large it is with her genuine talent and authentic performance.
