Today is a moment many of you pop heads have been anxiously waiting for. After the release of her 2009 critically-acclaimed debut "Travelling Like The Light," British singer-songwriter V V Brown announced today that new music and much more is coming very, very soon. In fact, the singer not only annouced her new single and new album today, but also, yes, a North American tour this upcoming November.
The first single from her new LP, titled "Children," will be released next week Tuesday and will give us a taste of what V V has been up to for the last 12 months. The song will feature Capitol Records label mate Chiddy (of Chiddy Bang) and was produced by Ne-Yo collaborator Chuck Harmony. "The song was written about a generation that has uninspiring aspirations and believes material wealth is what happiness is," V V explains in a press release.
She adds that the song feels particularly topical given the summer riots in London. "You have to give people a voice," she says. “Everyone has to be heard, because otherwise they will make themselves heard.'
While recording, V V stepped away from the retro soul pop sound that marked the overall aesthetic of her first album and immersed herself in classic punk and experimental electronica to provide her sound with a progressive new edge.
Together with writers like Evan Bogart (Beyonce) and Jean Baptiste (Black Eyed Peas), V V gave her new songs an expert pop gloss to fit a mainstream presentation.
VV explains that starting fresh felt incredibly liberating during her creative process. "I felt like I was maturing as an artist. I set up a studio in my flat, with just me and my engineer, and started going a bit mad with music. It was all part of the process of getting to where I am now. I had to re-program and learn who I was again. I was going to the kind of experimental place I hadn't been before," she says. "It felt like growing up. I felt freer."
Details about the album’s title and release date will be revealed via a web series debuting on her web site starting today. V V will be on tour in North America this November. Catch her tour dates after the break.
