(Typing this while on my way to Los Angeles to cover this year's GRAMMY Awards all week.)
The winner of this year's GRAMMY Award for Best New Artist joins an impressive line up of past winners, including The Beatles (1965), The Carpenters (1971), Bette Midler (1974), Culture Club (1984), Mariah Carey (1991), Christina Aguilera (2000) and Adele (2009).
Competing for GRAMMY gold in the Best New Artist category this year are Justin Bieber, Drake, Florence & The Machine, Mumford & Sons and Esperanza Spalding.
Personally, I think Florence & The Machine would be a fantastic pick. Florence is totally unique, a phenomenal live performer and a massively talented songwriter. However, based on all the pre-GRAMMY buzz, it seems that Drake and Bieber are vying neck and neck to take the top prize. GRAMMY voters have favored Drake before, but with Bieber fiever at an all-time high, the Canadian teen crooner may have the upper hand.
