Video: Arjan Chats with Tinashé

Zimbabwe born and London based singer Tinashé is one of the most exciting new talents to emerge on the British pop scene this year. The singer combines compelling storytelling with distinct, joyful melodies that are infused with invigorating African rhythms that are a fitting reflection of his musical roots.

Late last month, he released his new single "Zambezi" that is a tastemaker for his debut album, titled "Saved," that will drop in August.

Tinashé and I recently caught up via video phone. He spoke at length about his move from Zimbabwe to London, and how he got involved in music. He also explains the story behind "Zambezi" that is a lot more personal than initially may appear.

Make sure to scroll to the 10:00 minute mark to see Tinashé demonstrate a mbira, a traditional Zimbabwean instrument with a dream-like sound that he uses in his live shows. Very cool. Thanks for such a fun chat Tinashé. See you on this side of the pond very soon! Watch the video for Tinashé's "Zambezi" after the jump.
