A Few Words About Kylie Minogue
July 05, 2010
Kylie Minogue releases her long-awaited new album "Aphrodite" this week. It is her eleventh studio effort in a little over twenty years and the Aussie pop princess is going stronger than ever. What I admire about Kylie Minogue is that she has always stayed true herself. In over two decades, she has created an artist persona that is, well, pretty much who she is. Nothing fake, no filler, no additives.
The Aussie pop princess has never strayed too far from the joyful pop sound that made her famous. From "Locomotion" to "Spinning Around," and from "Fever" to "All The Lovers," there has always been a distinct aesthetic to her melodic dance-pop that is distinctly hers. It is sweet, sexy, delicate and joyful. She flirts and creates playful innuendo, but she never takes it to a level that could be perceived as tasteless or vulgar. Minogue's music, performance and imagery is at times daring, but always tasteful, subtle and chic
If there would ever be a book on pop etiquette, Kylie should write it.
Minogue's latest greatest "Aphrodite" is a hugely accomplished new album that is a culmination of everything that is fun and fantastic about Kylie. She delivers exactly what fans want and does it in a way that is fresh, vibrant and seemingly flawless
While some rightfully opt to hire sound-of-the-moment producers or construct a larger-than-life public persona, I applaud Kylie Minogue for creating timeless pop by applying proper restraint.
