Things are shaping up nicely for emerging British pop duo Hurts. The group's debut single, "Better Than Love" is entering the charts around Europe, creating some proper momentum for the release of their debut album later this year. (Click here to download "Better Than Love" for free.)
You may have been swooning over "Wonderful Life" and "Better Than Life," but also make sure check out "Mother Nature," which is the b-side of "Better Than Love." It is an orchestral, moody ballad with a melodramatic chorus that further cements Hurts' reputation as brave purveyors of '80s inspired synth pop. Proper album material.
Theo Hutchcraft and Adam Anderson also show off an immaculate sense of style and fashion. In a recent interview, the group explains how the visual aesthetic of their performance came about. "The music that we make is very bold pop music. And the way we dress, you know, we dress smart, and that comes from a time when you'd go to the dole office, and the only way you could go to the dole office without feeling like you wanna kill yourself when you came out - was by dressing in a suit because they'd take you seriously," Hurts explains.
"And also, I think there's an intensity to men dressing very simply, especially in the context of a pop band, and just allowing the music to be the powerful element. Even when you look at our photos, they're really very simple and that's because, we feel, it gives the music more gravitas, more power.”
Well-said. Right on.
