When I first popped in Performance's potent new single "The Living," I immediately had '80s flashbacks. The tightly produced song is dominated by blistering synth riffs, a pacing beat and singer Joe Stretch's confident delivery. The group cranks out a tune that is retro in its origin, yet forward thinking in its execution.
The trio's sudden blast onto the scene makes you think they're brand-new. Performance have, however, been around for a little while. The group released their debut LP back in 2007, which they sold in and around their hometown of Manchester.
After their initial local success, the group took a brief break to concentrate on other projects. Singer Joe Stretch wrote two books and synth man Joe Cross wrote and produced for a number of bands including the hotly-tipped Hurts. Watch and listen to Performance's "The Living" and look out for their new record "Red Brick Heart."
