Hot New Talent Alert: Milke "Love Get Out Of My Way"
February 24, 2009
Here's a band you must hear now, right now, immediately, without a pause. Milke's "Love Get Out Of My Way" is just that deliciously good. It's one of those rare red, hot buzz tracks that combines a cutting-edge production with infectious pop sensibilities without being cheesy or gimmicky. It reminds me a little bit of how Sam Sparro's "Black & Gold" hit the scene around the same time last year.
Milke is a band project between British electro/ breaks producer Andrew "Friendly" Kornweibel and singer/guitarist Ra. The two met after Andrew heard Ra singing on a track by Black Grass, five minutes of Google-ing later and they had exchanged emails and put CDs in the mail.
Both originally from Australia, Andrew and Ra are not new to scene. Andrew built a successful DJ and production career downunder, remixing records for Darren Hayes, INXS and Justice, while producing songs for people like Roxy Wilde. Ra grew up in a hippie commune near Canberra and started out singing as a teenager. He sung with acts as diverse as soul vocal groups, rock bands, house acts, chillout, and straight up pop.
Inspired by the French wave of Kitsune artists, Stuart Price, DFA, Eurythmics, The Cure, Talking Heads, Stevie Wonder and Prince, Milke is well on its way to build a reputation as one of 2009's finest new hitmakers.
