Listen to Ono "Give Peace A Chance" (Remixes)

Following Yoko Ono's ambitious remix collections "Yes, I'm A Witch" and "Open Your Box," Yoko Ono now has released the remix EP "Give Peace A Chance" exclusively on Beatport.com. The EP commemorates the 39th anniversary of the world peace anthem's June 1, 1969 recording. The song was recorded during John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s infamous week-long Bed-In For Peace in Room 1742 at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, Canada.

The song has been re-recorded by Yoko Ono as "an uplifting, poetic narrative resonating with a contemporary sense of urgency and optimism," according to press release. The EP includes remixes by Tommie Sunshine, David Aude, Mike Cruz and Morel. Click here to download the remix EP.

To celebrate the release of the EP and to show her support for equal human rights, Yoko will be appearing this Saturday at New York City's Gay Pride. Four years ago, I met Yoko Ono and I asked her about the gay community's struggle for equal civil rights. "I have suffered myself from racism and sexism all my life," Yoko Ono told me. "I know what it feels like to be an outsider. I understand what position gays have been put in."

"A lot of people are testy and angry about the situation in the world and they’re trying to find a scapegoat," argues Ono. "The result is that people focus on things that really are not an issue, like civil rights for gays."

All you New Yorkers out there, look for her at the Beatport parade float. The March starts at noon on 5th Ave. & 52nd St., with performances by DJs Quentin Harris, Johnny Vicious, Glen Friscia and DJ Ricardo. Live performances from Joi Cardwell, Andrea Carnell and Jason Walker are also in the mix, and the float will be hosted by  diva Franklin Fuentes.
