Squint your eyes a little and you may see that this new portrait of Yelle looks somewhat like a 2007 version of Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa.
But unlike Da Vinci's tight-lipped beauty, the electro-pop rebel Yelle tells it like it is on her debut album "Pop Up." The French singer openly discusses her lesbian temptations ("Les Femmes"), making love to her sex toy ("Mon Meilleur Ami") and the virtue of small breasts ("85A"). She takes girl power to a whole new level with a confidence that is refreshing.
Musically, Yelle has been compared to some of the greats of the French electro movement like Etienne Daho, Elli & Jacno and Alain Chamford. Her booty jams are brash like her personality filled with electro twitters, '80s style handclaps, fast-paced rhythms and other glitzy sound effects.
Check out a guilt-free MP3 download of Booster's remix of Yelle's "A Cause des Garcons" that is a cover of a 1987 French hit by a female duo of the same name. (Thanks to the fine folks at Astralwerks for allowing me to share.)
