My Playlist: Davis, MTV's The Real World Denver

Screenshot_14

In my shameless effort to combine the sweet with the crunchy on this blog, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to put up a photo of Davis who is currently appearing on MTV's The Real World Denver. The gay frat boy from Marietta, GA is making the hearts of plenty of gay guys and straight girls tick a little faster with his good ole' Southern charm. Via the fine folks at MTV/Urge, Davis tells Arjanwrites.com about some of his favorite tracks he used to listen to while filming the show this summer. His taste is not particularly eclectic, but it is an okay mix of mainstream favorites. His descriptions refer to a few of his Real World cast mates. Learn more about them here. So let's get to it. What's on Davis' playlist?

Keane, "Leaving So Soon"
"I first heard this song when we were in Thailand. We had just found out that when our vacation was over, we'd all be going home just six days later. I listened to the song a lot realizing we'd all be leaving."

Cassie, "Me & U"
"The first night we moved into the house, Alex and I went out to a club, and I remember hearing and loving this song."

Nelly Furtado, "Promiscuous"
"We just seemed to hear this song every club we went to all summer. PJ loved it, too!"

(Davis' entire list after the jump.)

Cherish, "Do It, To It"
"For some reason, I loved this song and would always sing it with the kids on Outward Bound while hiking mountains."

Christina Aguilera, "Ain't No Other Man"
"PJ heard this song while I was in Denver and send it to me on a CD and said I'd love it ... he was right."

Gnarls Barkley, "Crazy"
"Brooke heard this song in L.A. before she came to Denver and would always be singing it. None of us had heard it yet and thought Brooke was just singing about how crazy she was."

Bubba Sparxxx, "Miss New Booty"
"Brooke's theme song. She loved her 'big juicy booty,' as she liked to call it."

Kelis, "Bossy"
"Colie's theme song. She was the bossiest of the girls and loved the line 'I'm a boss!' at the beginning."

Ciara, "So What"
"We first heard this at the beginning of the summer out clubbing. I remember dancing with Ty to it."

Pussycat Dolls, "Buttons"
"Jenn had just gotten done touring with a dance group and had the sickest dance routine to this song that she'd perform on me."

Panic! At The Disco, "I Write Sins Not Tragedies"
Colie and Jenn were OBSESSED with this song and stayed up all night singing the lyrics they found online; however, their version was totally off from the real one."

E-40, "Tell Me Where to Go"
"I'm somewhat of a terrible dancer, but Ty taught me some moves to this song. Alex loved the 'Go stupid/Go dumb, dumb, dumb' line."

Justin Timberlake, "SexyBack"
"Brooke was sure Justin was singing about a girl with a sexy back, i.e. a nice booty."

Yung Joc, "It's Goin' Down"
"Another song that reminds me of Ty and him getting down at the club. When he dances, everyone's gotta get out of the way."

Rihanna, "Unfaithful"
"I heard this song right before I came to Denver and was always singing it. I'm sure whichever director had to listen to me was so annoyed."

Brittany Murphy, "Faster Kill Pussy Cat"
"I wasn't a fan of Brittany Murphy until I heard this song. She has such a sexy voice, and I'd always request it when we were out."

Kierra Sheard, "You Don't Know"
"When I first met Steve, we talked about our love of gospel music and both really liked this song. It's awesome!"

John Mayer, "3x5"
"One of Steve's and my favorite singers. We both sang this a lot out in the woods."

Jay-Z, "Change Clothes"
"Wherever we wanted to change clothes, we had to get our microphones temporarily removed. So, I'd tell the director I needed to change cloths and then start singing this song."

John Legend, "It's Alright"
"Tyrie and I both loved this song and bonded on our first Outward Bound trip singing it while hiking down a mountain. Needless to say, we sang a lot on hikes."

Kirk Franklin, "Hosanna"
"I always was humming or singing this song whenever I was on a ledge, going rappelling, or just felt in danger. It's a cool gospel song that made me feel safer."

Oh Arjan, you can be such a twat some times and so sadly predictable ... I mean Davis? Are you serious?

You truly whore it out to any gay homosexual. I hope watching a few episodes of The Real Fake World will bring you to your senses. Davis isn't very pretty on the inside so don't get your panties wet just yet girlfriend.

Love always,
Nagazaki C.

Hey Nagazaki, just take the chill pill and calm down LOL... I do not watch the Real World (it looks like you do) but I don't mind reading about him....you are overreacting :-) jealous of his looks?? LOL

Posted by: Argdude at Nov 30, 2006 9:22:54 AM

Marietta GA is one of my hometowns. We luvs Mariettans. However... long-ass list of songs with no substance to any of the comments. Davis should do Dudetube!

I hope you get something back for this promo Arjan.

Posted by: xolondon at Nov 30, 2006 9:36:52 AM

Well, of course his descriptions refer to the other cast members, he's promoting the show!

Anyway, I have horrible taste in music, and I love almost all of these songs, so I guess this guy and I have a lot in common. He's cute, too. Although the whole "gay frat boy" infatuation is undeserved and needs to end.

Posted by: Toby at Nov 30, 2006 9:42:47 AM

And Argdude, just because someone offers criticism about something doesn't mean that he is bitter and jealous. Try thinking for yourself - it's fun!

Posted by: Toby at Nov 30, 2006 9:44:09 AM

Arjan, I have a vagina, why would I be jealous of his looks? And no, I don't watch The Real World, but we got a screener of the first few episodes to review for my place of work and Davis was a wreck he gives you gay boys a bad name.

And clearly you're unaware that looks aren't everything ... If he was as pretty on the inside as he is on the outside than I wouldn't be so appalled by your wet panties.

Posted by: Nagazaki Comeyuca at Nov 30, 2006 9:47:29 AM

I think I am in love with Nagazaki.

Posted by: Toby at Nov 30, 2006 9:51:00 AM

Nagazaki, argdude is not arjan... of course I am aware that looks aren't everything, but usually people that insist so much on this are those, how can I say this, not really "gifted" :-), if you know what I mean...

Toby, I can think by myself, thank you very much...I have no objection about offering criticism, but calling somebody a twat or including the word "whore" in a sentence to somebody like Arjan, just because one doesn't agree with one of his posts, is just not classy. I think Arjan has done a GREAT job posting information about artists, music, and events, and I find your or xolondon's suggestion that he is "promoting" the show totally unfair to him and baseless...

ARJAN >> YOU RULE!

Posted by: Argdude at Nov 30, 2006 10:15:13 AM

I think it's hilarious that Davis (and so many other gay guys) like to call themselves "straight acting", yet listen to the GAYEST, most unoriginal girl music ever. Not only is the "straight acting" label stupid , but apparently untrue as well.

Posted by: Patrick at Nov 30, 2006 10:20:45 AM

Maybe Davis can get a free Arjan t-shirt now in addition to the free blowjob MTV just got.

Posted by: IWhoredMyselfToMTV at Nov 30, 2006 10:21:47 AM

Thanks Toby, you're so sweet! And Arjan, I love you too, that's why I visit your site because you always have really good scoops and music, but sometimes you just write like a total twat, especially when it comes to boys and this Davis fiasco was the last straw for me ... Well, this and your constant state of wetness for The Killers ... even after the dreadful SAM'S TOWN.

I find it hilarious that Davis can call a black person a "n*gger" (in 3rd episode) yet still have his iPod filled with 'jungle music' and gospel tunes. Hate isn't only directed at LGBTs, Davis...

Posted by: EtotheG at Nov 30, 2006 2:42:43 PM

"His taste is not particularly eclectic, but it is an okay mix of mainstream favorites."

[snicker] Damn, dude. Hella diplomatic.

Posted by: Ernie at Nov 30, 2006 7:15:08 PM

I don't think Davis calls a black person a nigger. I think there's a stranger in a bar who calls one of the roommates that (Steven) and Davis does nothing (i.e. doesn't back his roommate up when the roommate complains or something like that). That's what the roommate Tyrie appears to be angry about (in promos for next week's show).

The funny thing is Davis is always going on about what a straight-acting gay guy he is. Translation: he's not a sissy fag.

If that's the case, Davis ought to know that straight guys back their buddies up. As do tough gay guys. You know the phrase "I got your back." Athletes on teams understand this. As do most well-adjusted people.

You don't hang around like a bitch pretending nothing's wrong when some asshat in a bar calls your roommate a nigger. Unless you're a weak bitch who's only into the tough parts of "straight-acting" when they're convenient, and is happy to be a weak fuck when it's not.

But the episode hasn't aired yet; maybe there will be some explanation for why he punked out.

Posted by: kate at Nov 30, 2006 7:39:13 PM

Maybe Arjan fantasizes about this guy, but is that a reason for anyone else to care what his musical taste is? That show has been dead for years, and helping to extend the notoriety of anyone on it is a joke. Even if he has more "eclectic taste" than Arjan. How a music blogger asseses interests ranging from Kirk Franklin to Panic! at the Disco as less than eclectic is blowing my mind. But that's what happens when young & white is the only criteria for acknowledging an artist. I only keep reading the blog because the apparent chord he strikes with that same homogeneic taste in others is fascinating.

Are you people for real?
God help the human race.

Posted by: mat at Dec 1, 2006 6:02:53 AM

You realize this guy is a racist? So, what if he's gay! Do some research before you slobber over someone.

Posted by: brad at Dec 5, 2006 7:31:21 PM

You all realize the children on the Real World are like 22 years old? They're just children. How would you have faired in front of a TV camera 24-hours a day when you were all 22? It's just a TV show for crying out loud, get over yourselves.

Posted by: woneffe at Dec 9, 2006 12:28:39 PM

you do know he won't respond to any of your lame messages and most likely Davis won't even look at them

So get Real.

Thats the phrase that the real world has

Is it strange that I don't think Davis is really gay? I mean...there's just something about him, right? Does anyone else notice it? 'Cuz I keep getting a strange vibe between him and Brooke, and I don't know why, but whatever. It is just a show, but it helps to put you to sleep at night.

Peace.

Davis is so hot...he should so leave his boyfriend and be mine!

Posted by: Adam at Dec 14, 2006 11:10:30 AM

I was just at a promo party with Davis, Tyrie, Nicole and Colie. Davis is just your typical 22 year old who likes it all, meaning he will do a guy and a girl. He and Colie were flirting and rubbing and touching big time. Mark from (road rules years ago) is now interviewing and he made a comment that Davis, when he is drunk does EVERYONE boy/girl....
