Stream Softlightes "GirlKillsBear (Lo-Fi-Fnk Remix)"
October 06, 2006
The hot and sizzling Modular label recently signed another hot new band to their impressive portfolio of indie talent. Their latest addition is Southern California band The Softlightes. According to a press statement, the four-piece makes "pop music beautiful again with angelic and heartfelt vocals mixed with electronic beats layered amongst beautiful instrumental arrangements." The Softlightes will be releasing their digital EP "Heart Made Of Sound" on October 10. A full length album is expected in 2007.
Inspired by artists like Marvin Gaye, Billy Joel and Yo La Tengo, the group first got together late 2004 after Ron Fountenberry (vocals) and Ron Dunn (bassist) moved on from their own musical endeavours. A few months later, drummer Tim Fogarty and pianist Andrew Van Baal joined the two during rehearsal sessions in Dunn's Los Angeles garage. "We just tried to create a lush and beautifully balanced pop record, like the old days, even if we didn't have a record deal or access to a studio," says Fountenberry.
Arjanwrites.com faves Lo-Fi-Fnk put together their own punchy version of The Softlightes' lead track "GirlKillsBear." The spunky Swedish duo respects the song's delicate undertones but throws some live-sounding drums and synth kicks in the mix. Lots of love to my pals at Modular for allowing me to exclusively stream this track. If you want to know more about Softlightes and their upcoming gigs, visit their MySpace site.
