Free Download: Mika "Relax (Take It Easy)"
October 17, 2006
It is hard to categorize Mika's sound. His music is not electro, not dance, not '80s retro pop and it is most certainly not rock. Some might go the easy route and just call it very gay. I prefer to label Mika's brand of pop music infectious and fun with its brassy melodies, gifted vocals and catchy hooks. The singer is a hot new talent who has some serious chart potential overseas. Download "Relax" and decide for yourself.
Mika was born in Lebanon but raised in Paris and London. Hopping from country to country and from school to school, he used music to express himself. To tell stories, jokes and his views about the world around him. "Tell the truth in a song and people are less pissed off than if you were to say it to their face," he writes on his MySpace page. Mika started his singing career as a kid in London contributing vocals to jingles and commercials. "I'll never forget calling up British Airways to get a ticket only to be placed in a line, listening to my own voice," he says.
Inspired by Prince, Harry Nilson and Elton John, and seduced by the glitz and glamour of Top Of The Pops, Mika knew that he wanted to be a pop star.
Most of the song from his debut "Life In Cartoon Motion" were recorded in Miami with the help of a former Bee Gees sound engineer. Stream some tracks from the record here (make sure to listen to the Queen-esque "Grace Kelly"). Many thanks to Island Records for making this guilt-free mp3 download of "Relax (Take It Easy)" available to Arjanwrites.com readers.
