Mute: "Goldfrapp Not Recording James Bond Theme"

I knew it was too good to be true. Contrary to reports that are flooding the internets, a formal spokesperson for Mute, Goldfrapp's record label, told Arjan Writes today that the duo will not record the theme song of the new James Bond movie "Casino Royale." Mute also noted that Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory will not perform at the Austin City Limits festival even though the promoter still lists the band as a headliner on its web site. The band will possibly do a North American tour in the fall. Fans have been critical of Mute and claim the label has not done enough to support Goldfrapp's launch in the United States. But Mute is currently trying to bring the band back to the States for a fall tour. Due high demand for the band in different markets, the group won't be able to get stateside sooner.

I'm glad they're not doing the Bond theme, though. I'd rather a new album or EP to buy. That, and a tour. One that preferably doesn't skip over the entire middle of Canada.

What does her record company to do with this news? As far as I am concerned, Goldfrapp can independently work on a James Bond song.

Furthermore, when working on a James Bond title theme, they need to work, just like Garbage in 1999, together with film composer David Arnold and the Bond producers.

And please remind some other previous statements from Goldfrapp herself. Last week during a gig, Alison personally admitted that she's in talks with David Arnold and that she's allready composing material for the upcoming Bond film 'Casino Royale'.

I also want you to read this interview completely: http://www.splendidezine.com/features/goldfrapp/ . In here you can read some of Goldfrapp's personal opinions towards the James Bond songs. And they are more positive than the remarks from that spokesman from Mute.

Goldfrapp could release "Sartorius" as Bond theme :-)

Good comment re Sartorius. Pity they never even bothered to record it in a studio.

The Bond rumor is not their fault, but... ugh. Mute just cannot handle this band.

Since MUTE seems to have dropped the ball with GOLDFRAPP, then what would be a more appropriate lable? What exactly is MUTE doing wrong? I think most major labels suck when it comes to electronica/DownTempo/ChillOut bands.

The first thing they did wrong was be heavy handed with American brick and mortar stores, demanding that they pull imports of the UK release of Supernature. I have no time for a music label that does not support traditional record stores.

Then it went downhill from there...
