Exclusive: Listen to Kay "M.A.J.O.R." (Tiesto Remix)
Rising Canadian pop star Kay has something big and important to celebrate this week. Today, she released her very first EP on iTunes in Canada that will finally introduce her sweet and crunchy pop goodness to more people. It's about time! And with gorgeous cover art like that it will be easy to fall head over heels in love with her. Kay's irresistible.
A little birdie told me that big things for Kay will be unleashed in the U.S. very soon as well so stay tuned to this blog for all the lastest greatest about Kay.
The "My Name Is Kay/M.A.J.O.R" EP includes the single edit of "My Name Is Kay" (written by Evan Bogart and Ryan Tedder of One Republic) plus the original version of "M.A.J.O.R" that was produced by our pal Dr Rosen Rosen. That track premiered right here on ArjanWrites.com back in November 2010.
The EP also features some excellent remixes including Frankmusik's Lost The Damn Gameboy Remix of "My Name Is Kay," plus remixes of "M.A.J.O.R" by Gunslinger, Junior Sanchez and Tiesto.
Check out Tiesto's remix of the song in the player below. The Dutch soundboard maestro turns Kay's poppin' original into a hard-pulsing dancefloor stomper with a trancy touch that hits nicely around the 3:35 minute mark after a frentic build. It's a nice way for Tiesto to return the favor after Kay contributed vocals to his "Work Hard, Play Hard" single last year. (Download EP)
Video Interview: Arjan Chats with Kay and Ryan Tedder
Canadian pop newcomer Kay is one of the most exciting new artists to keep your eye on this year. Her giddy, hip hop goosed pop is a mighty fresh new addition to the scene that make her stand out from the pack.
Traveling from her home in Nova Scotia to Los Angeles via London and Vancouver, Kay has been working with chart-topping writers and soundboard wizards like DJ Tiesto, Ryan Tedder (of One Republic), Evan Bogart, Dr Rosen Rosen and Bangladesh to craft a unique, hit-savvy sound of her own.
I posted her brand-new "My Name Is Kay" earlier this week to give you a little taste of Kay. The track is a chunky blend of pop, soul, retro, funk and hip hop that bursts with Kay's upbeat, straight up attitude that will have you tapping along the moment it hits.
Earlier, I chatted with Kay to talk about her music, inspirations and creative process while she was in Denver to record with Ryan Tedder. Totally fun interview. Ryan even makes a cameo (around the 6:50 minute mark) to talk about Kay and the music they have been working on. Share your thoughts about the video. (Thank you so much Kay and Ryan for making time during your studio time to make some time to chat.)
Watch. Share. Like. Re-play.
