Free MP3 Download: Operator Please "Catapult" (Slim Remix)
Ever since I met up with them in Australia last year, I have been obsessed with Operator Please. Can't wait to see them again at South by Southwest next week. Hailing from Brisbane, Operator Please is the teaming of vocalist and guitarist Amandah Wilkinson, drummer Tim Commandeur, keyboardist Chris Holland, bassist Ashley McConnell and violinist Taylor Henderson.
Together they bring a slick and tight mesh of crunchy, new wave-ish pop and stylish rock with steady indie sensibilities. Think Alphabeat meets The Gosspip meets The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Very photogenic band with all the right chops to do well outside of Australia.
Their sophomore album “Gloves” is out in the U.S. now and I highly suggest you pick it up. Grab the sleek and minimal Slim remix of their new single "Catapult" now totally guilt-free. (Shout to HP and Beats Audio for sponsoring my trek to South by Southwest.)
Watch New Operator Please "Catapult"
Aussie pop outfit Operator Please is one fire in the video for their new single, "Catapult." Shot in gritty dark blue lighting and driven by that incredibly delicious, new wave-ish bassline, this video is a perfect fit for the mildly menacing pop tune about a lovers' argument gone mad. Loving it. Time for the world to start paying attention to the hotness that is Operator Please. (Grab "Catapult" on iTunes in the U.S. here.)
Video Interview: Fun Five with Amandah Wilkinson of Operator Please
This past weekend, I spent some time with the girls and guys of Operator Please in Perth, Australia during the One Movement Conference. Operator Please puts out a spunky mix of new wave-ish pop and indie rock that has been compared to The Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Gossip but is totally their own.
The group just released "Volcanic," the brand-new single taken from their excellent sophomore album "Gloves"." Even tough the group has no formal distribution agreement in North America, you can can pick up the album on iTunes. Make sure to give it a spin.
Totally fun front lady Amandah Wilkinson and I also sat down for an impromptu Fun Five video interview on Saturday. Fun Five is a brand-new video segment on ArjanWrites.com that features me asking artists five fun questions for their immediate response. Short, to the point and very spontaneous. It's a pretty good way to get to know an artist quickly. Hope you like. (Thanks for all of you on Twitter and Facebook for submitting questions for Fun Five.)
Watch New Operator Please "Volcanic"
On the flight back from Sydney today, I listened to a hearty brew of Brandon Flowers, Hurts, Kitsune's Compilation #9, a random shuffle of indie, chill and electro, and Operator Please's latest greatest. "Gloves" to keep me occupied for the 20 hours up in the air.
I have been mightily impressed by the energy, music and gusto of Operator Please after spending some time with the girls and guys down under. It is pretty clear that they are the real deal who have the chops to take their grinding brand of pop rock far beyond Australia. It is not The Gossip, it is not The Yeah Yeah Yeahs - it is Operator Please
Check out the video for their newest single, titled "Volcanic," that was released earlier this week. Look out for a video interview with front woman Amandah in the next few days. Super fun.
