Listen to Goldfrapp "Rocket" (GRUM Remix)
GRUM's blazing remake of Goldfrapp's new single "Rocket" is a totally fun take on the original track. The savvy British DJ reengineered the arrangement to intensify the dancefloor qualities of the single version. Alison even re-recorded part of the vocal track to make it fit GRUM's vision. Starting around the 3:00 minute mark (half-way), he lets loose on the soundboard and adds a few more sonic tricks that forcefully propel this remix right into the stratosphere. Fire!
Make sure to catch GRUM over the next few week in a town near you when he comes to North America to make a few DJ appearances. Cities he will visit include New York, Toronto, Los Angeles, Montreal and Vancouver. Get all the details here.
Video Premiere: Goldfrapp "Rocket"
Goldfrapp premiered the video for their excellent new single, "Rocket," on MSN today. Head over here to see Alison grab the wheel and drive her monster truck across the desert carrying a gigantic rocket. Fun little music flick saturated with color and attitude. Alison even attempts a few dance moves and Will Gregory makes a quick cameo as well. So glad to have them back. (Thanks Brian for the heads up.)

Can we have a big, fat "wow!" please?
What a fresh and unexpected new Goldfrapp sound. After the disco stomp of "Supernature" and the introverted "Seventh Three," this new Goldfrapp tune sounds unlike like anything the duo has done before. Just how they like it, and just how their fans love them.
The mid-tempo "Rocket" reminds me of early '80s American synth-driven singer/songwiter pop. Very smooth and incredibly catchy. I'm not making a direct comparison but I totally get a Journey, Christopher Cross vibe from this. Delicious!
This year may finally be the year for Goldfrapp. And if Roisin Murphy could have an equally successful year then we can all say that 2010 was pretty darn great for crunchy electro-pop and sleep a little better at night.

Goldfrapp Performs in Toronto
"Goldfrapp surprised many of their fans with an organic, folk sound on "Seventh Tree" and much of these songs accounted for the first 2/3 of the show, where the audience was content in sitting and clapping through gems like "A&E" and the epic "Clowns". The latter track had the band jamming up to a big crescendo, in what was one of the evening's most memorable moments. It was not until more dance-oriented material like "Strict Machine", "'Number 1" and "Ooh La La" were performed that the show hit a high note. The at-capacity crowd got up on its feet and merrily danced along. One woman, whom Alison dubbed "The Crazy Lady", ran up to the front of the stage shouting "I love you!", pulling out some crazy dance moves, before she was reprimanded by Security on multiple occasions."
