Hot New Talent Alert: Watch Leo Leoson 'The Contemporary Dancer' [VIDEO]
Hip and happening Swedish pop label TEN is the original home of indie faves like Niki & The Dove and Icona Pop. Recently, newcomer Leo Leoson was added their roster of artists as well. The Stockholm-based singer/songwriter hit the scene late last year with his debut single, titled "The Contemporary Dancer," that was released alongside a gritty music video that was shot somewhere in the Swedish countryside. The track is taken from his forthcoming debut EP that was produced by (equally exciting new) outfit Kate Boy. "The Contemporary Dancer" was produced by Andreas Söderlund.
Firmly positioned on the crunchy side of the ever-evolving Swedish pop spectrum, Leoson's "The Contemporary Dancer" follows the trail created by artists like Miike Snow, The Knife and iamamiwhoami. It's a song that features an unorthodox production, but is anchored by the melodic stylings that define great Swedish pop.
There's not much known about Leoson's and he really prefers to have his music do most of the talking. The Swede tells me in an email. "People often ask me: 'What it is this song about?' or 'How do you start composing songs?' or 'What kind of genre do you play?'" Those are questions of no importance to me. Nothing really matters until you actually feel the heartbeat of the singer's voice humming those lyrics."
He adds, "That shatters your mind into being reminded of an old heartbreak, so profound, that you realise later that it was just a memory of a simple being. As for me it's about writing a song that I cannot regret." Watch the video for the song below. (Download Leo Leoson "The Contemporary Dancer" on iTunes.)
