Hot New Talent Alert: Listen to Jarell Perry 'Awkward' [Download Free MP3]
Early last week, I first introduced to R&B pop newcomer Jarell Perry who is featured on Andalo & Blucker's massive Swedish dancefloor stomper, "Big Big World." But Perry has a lot more musical goodness on his sleeves. Check out his new artist single, entitled "Awkward," that gives listeners a few more clues about Perry's refreshing new pop sound and vivid storytelling.
Dominated by shimmering synths, a brooding bassline and Perry's warming vocals, "Awkward" is a story about that "awkward" moment between two lovers who are coming to the painful realization that the love between them has ran its course. "When you're smiling, there's no one around," he sings. "Now that youre in my face I forgot what I'm supposed to say. You were never paying attention."
It's another very exciting track by Perry who hails from Orange County, CA, home of Disneyland, which may explain the singer's "Mouse" ears on the single sleeve of "Awkward. The singer/songwriter already has had early success as a songwriter penning songs for Fat Joe and collaborating with DJ wiz Rusko.
In a recent spotlight article by ASCAP On The Come Up, Perry talks about his first introduction to the music scene. "When I was around 15 years old, I recorded and toured with my church's gospel choir as a featured vocalist," he says. "That was my first time being in the studio, seeing an album come together. That's when I knew I wanted to do this for a living."
Perry explains that he is looking to bring something new and fresh to the pop scene. "I'm inspired by a lot of things: life experiences, the conversations in my head, etc," he says. "But I'm most inspired by what I don't hear when I turn on the radio. I see a void and I make it my mission to fill it." Perry is currently putting the final touches on his debut LP "Simple Things" that is scheduled to be independently released in December.
