Listen to ZZ Ward 'If I Could Be Her' [Exclusive Premiere]
ZZ Ward's highly-anticipated debut album "Till The Casket Drops" is without a doubt one of the most impressive debut records of the year. ZZ serves up a refreshing blend of soul, pop and "back-porch blues," and infuses it with her incredibly emotive vocals that will hit you right at the core and make you feel every word she sings from your toes up. Produced and performed to perfection, one of the stand out qualities of "Till The Casket Drops" is that ZZ's music and poignant storytelling comes straight from the heart and is not watered down by any fluff, fillers or other soundboard tricks.
"Till The Casket Drops" takes listeners through a range of different emotions - from gut-wrenching ballads like "Last Love Song" about letting go of love to the bluesy "Lil Darlin" that pays homage to her roots. The happy-go-lucky "If I Could Be Her" brings a playful vibe to her brand of "dirty shine" when she argues that another girl's "perfect car" and "daddy's car" is no match for the love she can give.
ZZ says about "If I Could Be Her," "It was one of those songs we really had fun pushing. Neff and I just tried stuff, I played harmonica and he was recording me as I'd laugh at the end of takes. We didn't always keep things, but we felt so much freedom working in the studio together."
Over the last few days, ZZ's entire album debuted across the web and today I'm premiering "If I Could Be Her" for all of you to hear, enjoy and to get taste of ZZ's fantastic debut LP. (ZZ Ward "If I Could Be Her" will be released on October 16. You can pre-order on iTunes.)
