Listen to Alesso featuring Matthew Koma 'Years' Song Premiere [Review]
After collaborating with Matthew Koma and Sebastian Ingrosso on his crossover smash "Calling," Alessandro 'Alesso' Lindblad once again teams up with Koma on his new single, "Years." The song packs heaps of optimism with lyrics like "the sun hits like a bullet of faith" and "grab on to desire and run away" that are a perfect match for Alesso's appropriately epic dance-pop production. The prodigious Swedish DJ gives meaning to Koma's hopeful lyrics with stadium-sized synths and a soaring melodic piano riff that stir a sense of melancholy that Swedes know how to capture so well.
"Years" comes hot on the heels of the release of Zedd's "Spectrum" EP that also features Koma's anthemic vocals and on-point writing work. With his keen sense for melody, the Long Island crooner has become a much-sought after writer and vocalist for DJs to work with. In a recent interview with ArjanWrites.com, Koma talked about working with the new stars of EDM. "They're all very musical people. It's cool to see things through their eyes and it has inspired me to approach songwriting in a different way," he told me.
Koma adds, "The electronic dance music world is so track driven and there's so much focus on the production that when it comes to songwriting it is even more about finding that simple sentiment and tapping into it." Alesso's new "Years" is a perfect example of that. It's one of those song that excudes a feeling of living in the moment that stirs up just the right escapist vibe for the dancefloor.
Koma explains that in order for a song or a hook to stick it needs be authentic and come "from a real place." "I think there has to be a certain level of experience with what you're writing about to really tap into the main points of that emotion to connect with people in a real way," Koma says. "I think people can tell when somebody talks about something from a real place."
Following the success of tracks like "Raise Your Head," "Nillionaire," "Calling" and his mighty remix of Keane's "Silenced By The Night." it most certainly looks (and sounds) like that "Years" will help Alesso break into to the mainstream of the EDM scene. It will also give Koma a proper boost forward and solidify his position as one of the most promising new voices in pop to keep your eye on. (Click here to download Alesso feat.
