[VIDEO] Dutch Soul Crooner Wouter Hamel Covers Azealia Banks "212"
Azealia Banks' "212" is an electrifying hip pop track that is about to take over the pop charts in Europe with Holland and the U.K. leading the way. First released in the summer of last year, "212" is now a global smash in the making that firmly positions Banks as one of the hottest new talents on the scene to keep your eyes on. The combination of her bareknuckle delivery, saucy lyrics and producer Lazy Jay's hypnotic groove is a dynamite package that is now also starting to inspire worthy covers by other artists.
Dutch soul crooner Wouter Hamel performed a highly imaginative remake of "212" live on Dutch 3FM radio this morning. Before getting into it, he tells DJ Giel Beelen that he's a fan of the track which must have compelled him to put his own unique Hamel twist on it.
With its highly stylized production and Banks' one of a kind delivery, "212" is hardly an easy tune to cover. But following his fine artistic instincts, Hamel doesn't shy away from a challenge and turns the hit song into a modern-day soul-funk joint that builds nicely into an epic number with flaming rock guitars. Hamel does a superb job shining a whole new light on the ubiquitous original. Very nicely done.
