EDX "Give It Up For Love" featuring John Williams (Single Review)
By Steve Siegel (bio)
EDX has been a heavy hitter on the dance music scene for awhile. Yet, the Italian DJ and producer has been noticeably absent from the production world for a hot second. Turns out EDX (real name: Maurizio Colella) has been locked away in his Zurich studio prepping for the release of his debut album. The album preview I heard has everything a dance music fan wants, from head-bumping synths and potent basslines to sky high melodies. One track in particular caught my ear though, entitled "Give It Up For Love," that features Swedish vocalist John Williams.
I'm a sucker for anyone who throws guitar into a club track (see here and here and EDX kills it with this one. Seducing the listener with some melodic guitar strumming, the melancholic chord progression works perfectly with John Williams' searching vocals.
EDX slowly adds percussive elements until they reach aclimax with Williams chanting what I'm sure will soon be a dance music cat call heard round’the world, "give it up for love tonight!" I found the drop especially interesting, asit pretty much summed up every popular commercial house style from 2011, including diving basslines, uplifting saw-wave chords and a sudden musical break on the 4th beat of every measure. "Give It Up For Love" is fine achievement for EDX and the perfect comeback single for an artist we've missed on the scene.
