[VIDEO] Dawn Richard Releases First Solo Video For "#SMFU (Save Me From You)"
After appearing on MTV's Making The Band and celebrating success as the lead member of platinum-selling R&B pop outfit Danity Kane, singer Dawn Richard takes a firm step to pop maturity on her debut solo single "#SMFU (Save From You)." The track is taken from Richard's forthcoming solo LP "Goldenheart" that follows her most recent stint on Diddy's Dirty Money project.
Penned by GRAMMY winning writers Druski & Carla Carter, "#SMFU (Save Me From You)" is a gut-wrenching, piano-driven ballad that tells a story about how the one you love may turn out to be a villain and not the superhero you initially fell for. Wonderfully emoted, Richard breaks down, reaches out to the sky and sings, "I don't know the man behind the masked identity. You're the only hero I know that can be saving everyone but keep on hurting me."
Richard adds in the song's chorus, "I don't need no rescue from no falling plane. So baby before you go put on your cape, first save me from you."
The single comes along with a gritty, black and white video that was shot in downtown Los Angeles. With empty streets and moody shots of the L.A. river, the video paints a picture of a post-apocalyptic world with Richard and her pals walking around seemingly lost while performing the song. Somebody please throw her a life line and lift her out of her misery. She's way too talented to be sad like this.
