Video: Arjan Interviews V.V. Brown

V.V. Brown is one of the most exciting new pop acts to break out of the U.K. this year. The singer serves up a retro-styled brand of pop that is both soulful and incredibly hooky. I nominated V.V. earlier this year to win a MTV Logo NewNowNext Award for Best International Crossover Act.

After just arriving in New York from Orlando where she had a flight connection, V.V. and I caught up on Sunday morning to talk about music and more. We chatted about her upcoming new music, being a fashion designer, being part of an exciting new generation of British pop artists and her connection to the the gay community.

V.V. also talks about the release of her debut album in the U.S. that will include a collaboration with a major U.S. artist. I made a guess, but V.V. couldn't reveal anything.

We also spoke about the success of charity single "I Got Soul" that entered the British chart at #6 this week. "I Got Soul" is a remake of The Killers' "All These Things That I've Done" by a group of young British artists that will benefit War Child, an organization providing urgently needed humanitarian assistance to war-affected children around the world. (Scroll to the 12:15 minute mark to hear that part.)

Make sure to scroll to the 14:20 minute mark to hear V.V. practice a GRAMMY acceptance speech in her best American accent. Hilarious! (Click here to download V.V.'s EP "The Attic" on iTunes.)
