A Few Words about Madonna and Whitney Houston

Just a quick little thought.

I downloaded Madonna's new video from iTunes last night. Love the video. Not the mix. I rather have the straight up radio edit. Was watching ABC's Goodmorning America this morning. Whitney in Central Park. Her voice cracked, but she delivered with emotion and gusto. Respect.

What struck me was that both divas are getting some help from their daughters. Lourdes in her mom's new strobosensational video. Bobbi Kristina cheering on the audience in Central Park.

It's remarkable to see that. Both Madonna and Whitney have both come a long, long way. Makes me wonder who of today's pop generation will still be able to celebrate the same level of success twenty years from now. Beyonce? Probably. Rihanna? Maybe. Miley? Possibly. Lady Gaga? Too early to tell. Is the era of big star divas over anyway?

I totally agree re: Celebration. Makes no sense to use a different mix for the video than the album edit.

Will have to YouTube Whitney later. Am so excited for her!!

Madonna and Whitney aren't divas, they're the greatest female stars of all time. Madonna is forever the Queen of Pop and the greatest female performer music has even known while Whitney Houston is the greatest female vocalist of all time and launched an era where nobody (Mariah Carey included) would ever top the original. Nobody will ever eclipse their fmale or influence, they're once in lifetime stars.

If the rumors of a second official video (where that picture of Lourdes is reportedly from) is true, then maybe that main version will have the regular radio edit track.

Love Madonna, have for decades. HOWEVER, as good as she looks on film for 51, I have to say I cringe a little when she dances too close to or rubs up against Justin Timberlake in the "4 Minutes" video and when she cuddles and seems to kiss the DJ who could be her son in the new video. While wanting to sell records to an younger audience, her getting suggestive with 20 year olds comes off as "To Catch A Predator". If a 51 one year old man was coming on to a 18 - 22 year old in a video, everyone would be grossed out and up in arms. Madonna, honey, reel it in.

There will never again be a phenomeon like Madonna and Whitney Houston. They were the two most significant women to come out of the prime MTV generation (by the time Mariah came out, MTV's influence was just starting to wane a bit). Their music videos (particularly Madonna's) are so iconic that they will forever be music video standards. But YouTube is helping some younger fans learn their legacy who want to escape today's music scene for other stuff.

Was it Whitney that said "I would kill my child if they turned out like Madonna!"
I think it was...
