Olivia Broadfield's "Don't Cry shines in simplicity.
The emerging British singer/songwrite combines subtle electronic arrangements with delicate and tender vocals that is reminiscent of the music by Imogen Heap, Feist and Dido. No wonder that Guy Sigsworth, one of music's leading electro-pop producers and one half of Frou Frou, has been taking notice.
Olivia tells ArjanWrites.com that "Don't Cry" is a song about the trappings of getting older. It's about that time when you look back at a time when you were younger and when things were so much simpler. Sounds pretty hefty, but the song itself is a lot more breezy. Like a nursery rhyme almost.
Olivia agrees. "I had the piano riff and the
nursery rhyme just popped into my head," she writes me. The singer laughs, "It's something that my mum
sings to my nieces, I don't know how well known a nursery rhyme it is
because people are always super confused about the 'pocketful of
plums.'" (Learn more about Olivia on her MySpace page.)
