Download The Killers New Single "Spaceman" on iTunes Now
The Killers have quietly released their new single "Spaceman" on iTunes to promote pre-orders for their forthcoming album "Day & Age." Download it here. "Spaceman" is another arena-sized glam-rock stomper with big drums and catchy hooks. The band started writing the song right after they finished recording "Don't Shoot Me Santa" late last year, giving the song a bit of a playful spin.
The song's associative lyrics once again capture an underlying anxiety that is well hidden in the group's synth bravado. At first listen, the song is about alien abduction. "It started with a low light. Next thing I knew they ripped me from my bed. And then they took my blood type. They left a strange impression in my head," Flowers sings in the first verse invoking memories of the late Roy Orbison when he soars into the upper ranges of the song (and doing a great job at it).
The lyrics take a turn towards a bigger theme when the song introduces star makers, dream makers and the spaceman. Arguably referencing biblical themes of good versus evil, and right versus wrong, Brandon gets to the core of the song in the second verse. "

i love the fact that this song ironically makes alien abduction fun--a further testament to brandon's weirdness.
one week away and i'll have the new album!
