Video Premiere: Anouk "Modern World"

So here it is. The whole thing. Finally.

Anouk's video for "Modern World" is exactly what I expected it to be after seeing some stills of it this weekend. The song is all about the idiosyncrasies and excess of our bloated lives and this video depicts the opposite extreme of that. Set in the land of the Pennsylvania Dutch, the footage shows Anouk as a stiff farmer woman who slowly but surely breaks loose from tradition.

The video is bold, brash, clever and a little controversial. I mean the last time I saw a singer prancing around crucifixes, it was Madonna in the video for "Like A Prayer," which led to a huge firestorm at the time. But a little controversy is not bad. Especially, if you're trying to make a point. And Anouk has a valid one.

All that's left to do after you're done watching the video is to head over to iTunes pronto, download the single and do your part to get Anouk more coverage in the States. The Dutch will be proud and thankful (including me).
