Audio: Arjan Talks With Duran Duran's John Taylor
Last week, I had a lengthy conversation with Duran Duran's bassist John Taylor. We talked about Duran Duran's upcoming new album "Red Carpet Massacre," the group's collaboration with Timbaland, the evolving relationship between him and Simon LeBon, growing older and much more.
I will be featuring more audio clips of the interview with John next week.
As a preview, listen to what John Taylor had to say about Duran Duran's new video "Falling Down" that premieres today:

Duran Duran. Wow! What a great new song "Falling Down" and from what I have heard adventurous, exciting new other stuff, too. I am VERY excited for the new cd and will get it when it comes out. In fact, I saw the video when it opened on yahoo yesterday and it was tremendous. In summary, the guys are rock vets and legends. They are still very, very relevant today!
Thanks guys!
Derek

I love the new stuff and can't wait for the album. The video was great and I can't wait to see them live in New York next month. They are amazing live.

It sucks in a big way. For more explanation... visit the Official Red Carpet Massacre Bashing Forum

I don't care for this new material by Duran Duran. I saw the video and I thought it was ok for me, but do not feel it is suitable material for my 9 yr old son nor my 13 yr old daughter. These men were marketed years ago as being nice boys from good families and yet they continue to be all about sex. That's horrible! Some of those men have children of their own and I wonder if they would want their daughters to look and act like the videos in this new video for "Falling Down?" Then again, when one of them was married earlier this year, a photo of his daughter, who can't be more than 14, or 15, looked like her breasts were going to pop out of her blouse. So I guess I shouldn't expect these men to uphold good, virtuous Christian ideals. Shame on Duran Duran! I will not buy this video, album, any of the songs, nor watch them. They are horrible people and terrible Christians and should be ashamed of themselves for subjecting our young girls to this lifestyle and glorifying that lifestyle. We don't need any more trampy girls. Encourage good morals, upstanding citizenship, and responsibility. Do for others what you'd do for your own. Stop being hypocrites!

Come on! It's only music and sex sells! Where have you guys been living under a rock? DD do it like no other band--they are tasteful and know how to make videos!

Shaniqua, not everyone is a Christian, and not all Christians share your beliefs. Live your life the way you choose, and let others do the same.

You created an entire site to slamming an album you haven't heard yet? How incredibly sad that you don't have a better way to spend your time. How old are you?
Posted by: nightdancer at Oct 17, 2007 11:07:00 PM
Wow, 7 big ole signatures! haha... you are sad, mate.
Anyway, cool video, I like the song. It's definitely peaked my interest for this new album.

That bashing board is made up of 3 people, tops. The 2 dudes are from the UK. They're talking to themselves via ALT's. Pay no attention.
I can't wait for more of the interview. I love the new track.

I'm not christian, but I find the video quite silly, unuseful and out of time. It seems DD still think we are in the 80s: money, sex, fashion, top models, and don't bother about the last years tendences and society's problems with anorexic young girls and so on. Appearently time doesn't pass for them. Or they don't want to grow old. :-(
Posted by: Biancaneve at Oct 18, 2007 3:41:24 AM
Who says they are christians? Each to their own. If you don't like it switch it off. Live and let live.
Anorexic? I do not find the models anorexic and fail to fall for this modern day assumption that the whole model industry is responsible for anorexia. Ok, some agencies have been irresponsible but to insinuate that this kind of video will make a girl anorexic is plain stupid.
Also, a RCM bashing site? Get a life.

Duran Duran are great! And this is what I call freedom, you are free to switch off tv... and have a bit of sex ;p

it`s a fantastic album and i love the new songs am a great duran duran fan so i love there music i am am sure to buy there album but it will never be the same without andy taylor but i wish him all the best xxxxxxx

I find it quite ironic and well handled, i mean from what i have heard it was a fashion spread in the Italian vogue that inspired the video, and it's very modern and up-to-date, contrary to what you may find.
there's nothing retro about it, it's very NOW. I mean nobody talked about supermodels in rehab before, and it's certainly taking a statemnt, not glorifying the whole thing. Look beyond people, how could you be embarrassed or insulted by a duran duran video?
Posted by: chris at Oct 18, 2007 9:07:39 AM
It cracks me up when people say this song, video and band are "stuck in the 80s." The "80s" must be kicking themselves, since they WISH they are as shallow, materialistic and pathetic as the "2000s." 2007 makes 1987 look like 1957. Teenage girls actually look UP to Paris Hilton. Every day we're treated to another new shot of Britney's cooter. The celebrity rehab facilities have all installed revolving doors. A doctor who does boob jobs has his own show. Yeah, "Falling Down" is really out of touch with this wonderful modern world in which we live.
Duran Duran-- so nice, you have to say it twice.

You can delude yourself all you want about the number of people that post on my site, if you want to feel better. And I'm not from the U.K. I suppose the multiple ip guests that vary between 5-6 at a time or upto 10 on occasion are all me? Must all Duranies live in the nile? The posters are quite recognizable, some of them are right from Lizard King's forum. We're all individuals with individual posting styles and thoughts which cannot be said about the Duraniesheep.

And I'd like to add that one way or another, the Laugh At Duran League will be make it's prescence known, pointing and mocking every pathetic Duranie in the face for as long as they dare to log on the net. RCM may be forgotten, but we will not.
Viva, the X-Duranies!
Posted by: Ghost at Oct 18, 2007 9:18:33 PM
I think this League thing is really low and pathetic. If I dont' like an album I just don't buy it. Don't you have better things in life than hate and destroy someone's else job? Get a life maybe?
And thank you Duran Duran for the soundtrack of my life

Since when were Duran Duran promoted as Christians?? If you were a fan in the day, how could you possibly have even thought such a thing? Did you see Girls on Film and the Chauffeur? Duran Duran's image was always that of the fast life, glamour, titallating sexuality (though a far cry from most rap videos today). I would rather my kids see the Fallng Down video than about 95% of rap videos. I find Falling Down tastfully, artistically filmed.

I so wish I could be like the majority of the Duran chicks who post all their stupid stories and pics with the band. Half of them are unattractive and really should hide their tramp stamps. We also need to cut down on the number of Moocow Duranie Mothers who go on tour and leave their babies at home. How great would you feel if your kid found out that you were desperately trying everything you could to get one night of passion with one of these guys? Will you brag to your daughter about one night riding John's big wang?

Let me see if I got this right: if you love someone, you unconditionally support them in everything they do, even if it clearly is self-destructive? Further, when told by the love of your life that you are being thrown over in favor of someone new and younger, that you are supposed to take on the role of cheerleader?
No, thanks.
Now you must excuse me, I'm going back to the bash board.

This is so sick! What are you talking about? You fucking prude shitty american bitches. I'm so glad to live in good old europe.
Fuck you!
Duran Duran are the most rocking band in the world.

Duran and rock should not come in the same sentence.
