Listen to Seal "Amazing" (Thin White Duke Remix)
No people. It wasn't a fluke. Seal's really back.
Pete Tong premiered the Thin White Duke remix of Seal's new single "Amazing" on his BBC radio show last night. The show also aired on XM satellite radio here in North America. The Thin White Duke is, of course, none other than Stuart Price with whom Seal worked on his entire new CD. (More about that here.)
Consider this remix as a bit of a taste maker for what's to come from Seal. I'm very curious about the vocal edit of "Amazing," but this remix sure gets me excited about the singer's collaboration with Stuart Price. Listen to radio stream of Tong's entire radio show here on scroll to the 6:30 minute mark to catch the remix.

Mmmmmm, I find it ironic that Stuart Price has referred to himself as the Thin White Duke" (among many other monikers), an obvious tip of the hat to David Bowie. Coincidentally, we know from Seal's unplugged version of Bowie's "Life On Mars?", he's quite a fan of rock's favorite chameleon. The "Thin White Duke" is a persona Bowie adopted for his StationToStation album (which many critics hail as his masterpiece). In fact, the title song starts out with the lyrics "The return of the Thin White Duke, throwing darts in lovers' eyes." This was a period where Bowie was experimenting with cocaine (there's a reference in the title song where he states "It's Not the Side Effects of Cocaine, I'm thinking that it must be love") He was wearing thin from overwork (due to the demands of his record contract and having just wrapped a movie) and the drugs. A lot of Price's synth work is reminiscent of Bowie's groundbreaking electronica work with Brian Eno in the mid-Seventies (only with beat you can dance to). In any event, I would like to know, since you'll be speaking with him, if Seal considers Bowie a major influence.
