Meet The Lady Tigra

The Lady Tigra is like Robyn, M.I.A. and Miss Elliott rolled into one. YouTube surfers might know the rapper from her kicky Pinkberry tribute "Sorry Ice Cream" that after its release in May has now officially become the company's signature song.

Born in New York City, the spunky Tigra was one of the original members of Miami-based female hip hop duo L'Trimm. Together with Bunny, she recorded two albums and had a modest hit with "Cars With The Boom," a sassy mix of Miami bass, rap and pop.

The group split during the recording of their third album after disagreement with their management and producers about their creative direction. Tigra moved back to New York City where she worked as a manager of nightclubs Plaid and Spa and took a leave absence from the music business.

Last year, she signed with indie label High Sore Records to get back into swing of things and record a new album. According to a press release her goal is "to bring a cultural hybrid of sonic motifs to a modern world in desparate, shrieking need of originality and verse." On the album, titled "Please Mr Boom Box," Tigra collaborated with LA singer-songwriter and production whiz Berko and also jumped in the studio to duet with MC Lytle and Mr Hahn.

Tigra's totally fun new single "Bass On the Bottom" is an accomplished throw back to innocent old-school '80s hip hop. Think fluorescent graffiti, legwarmers and the Rock Steady Crew. It  was remixed by Mr Hahn of Lincoln Park and the video was directed by John Stalberg Jr. Look out for The Lady Tigra opening for Gnarls Barkley and Kanye West on their tour later this year.
