Los Angeles-based outfit theSTART likes to call their music "noise pop." And that's a good way to put it. On their new album "Ciao, Baby," they present a gloomy, yet energizing sound that mixes up throbbing synths, menacing hooks, good ole' fashioned guitars and Aimee Echo's sultry delivery. It is Gwen Stefani meets Shiny Toy Guns meets AFI.

Aimee Echo and Jamie Miller formed theSTART in the fall of 1998 based on their mutual love of dark new wave, dance music and art rock. After releasing two album and impressing crowds with their powerful live shows, they have built a loyal following of fans around Southern California. Currently, the group is a quartet that also includes Lance Webber on guitar and different people that rotate on drums.

"Ciao, Baby" is their much-anticipated new album that might not only challenge you muscially but also lyrcically. A press release describes that "thematically, [theSTART] continues to explore complex issues of identity, desire, and politics – both personal and global – through Echo’s enigmatic lyrical prism."
