Listen and Download New Madonna Single "Hey You"

(UPDATE: You can download the entire song in MP3 format at MSN Australia. Totally guilt-free. This full version is a whole lot better then that low-bit clip that was posted on YouTube. She sounds really good vocally. And even though I find the lyrics totally trivial, they sorta fit the song's purpose. It's the Madonna gospel.)

Well, it is not the entire thing, but at least a good forty seconds of a low-bit rate version. If this is the song that is supposed to mobilize the youth of the world against climate change, I'm not sure if it is going to do the job (despite the subtle marching drum).

What do you think? Like or dislike?

In related news, Sir Bob Geldof makes some interesting remarks about Live Earth in today's issue of The Independent. He argues that Live Earth is a waste of time that "doesn't have a final goal." "I would only organise this if I could go on stage and announce concrete environmental measures from the American presidential candidates, Congress or major corporations," he tells the British newspaper. "They haven't got those guarantees. So it's just an enormous pop concert or the umpteenth time that, say, Madonna or Coldplay get up on stage."

The paper also writes that Geldof is "irked" by the naming of the global concert event that resembles his beloved Live Aid initiative. "[Live Earth] sounds like Live8. We're getting lots of responses from people who think we are organising it," he adds.

There's nothing wrong with a big and fun (environmentally conscious) pop concert, but I agree with Geldof that this is a great opportunity to also impact legislation.

the song sounds like it sucks, and i have a total weakness for madonna ballads. i just hate it when she gets all preachy on us.

but her voice actually sounds pretty spot on... even at a low bit rate.

anyway. i can't imagine this song mobilizing anyone to do anything except turn it off. the only thing that is gonna be more vomitrocious is the tracy young remix that is sure to follow.

Not really an anthem as such, but it's a very sweet song. Lovely melody I must say.

I had to force myself to hear it complete. "Little brother, little sister..." she sings...ugh. I mean, lyrics were not what helped Confessions, but this is something else, this is shameful. She should grow up already.

The song is crap, bland wallpaper. It doesn't bode well for the rest of her collaborations with Pharrell & JT!

Some of you seem incapable of listening to anything that isn't a gay dance track. Get a grip.

The song in general sucks... oh well, not everything can be a hit, right?

Madonna is cool... but this song is not :(

Love Madonna, hate the song

Not great, but not bad. It's not what you'd expect considering that this was produced by Pharrell Williams and her. It tries to be orchestral pop; Rufus Wainwright could do this better. The track sounds it was thrown together quickly; if they had spent some more time on this track this would end up as a decent power ballad for commercial radio. At least this will quiet down the hardcore Madonna fans who think that she's selling out by working with big-name hip-hop artists for US radio airplay.

Musically it's a frisky orchestral pop ballad.
Lyrically it's junior high diary musings.
Vocally it's the best she's sounded and been arranged in years. The layered harmonies in the middle are gorgeous.
Sadly the good parts cannot rescue the lazy lyrics.
