The Killers Play 99X Mistletoe Jam

Arjanwrites_brandon_dec18

One of The Killers' wildest dreams finally came true. They played a true arena show last night at Philips Arena in Atlanta that must have been their biggest headlining show in the U.S. to date. Brandon Flowers has always said that playing mass venues is something that the band has been aiming for ever since their humble beginning playing a Las Vegas gay club when they started.

The group got their big chance last night at the 99x Mistletoe Jam that was a make up gig after the band had to cancel their appearance a week and a half ago due to Brandon's illness. The venue was nearly sold out and according to a PR rep 5,000 additional tickets were sold after The Killers performance was re-scheduled.

It was wild to watch the guys play such a large crowd. The set included hit likes "Smile Like You Mean It," "Somebody Told Me" and "Mr. Brightside" mixed with some of there newer work "Bones," "Bling," "When You Were Young" and their new single "Read My Mind." The stage was obviously a lot bigger than what I've seen them play on before. Exciting was that the main stage was extended with a 20ft runway into the crowd that Brandon used to parade up and down (click to watch a scene). It is impressive how he has transformed from a shy keyboard player to an all-out performer who seemed completely comfortable using the space he had available. Also, seeing Brandon's face up close on the jumbotron hanging from the ceiling was hot.

I shot a few pictures of the gig that I posted on Flickr.

(I took those photos in the press area in front of the stage. I was positioned right in front of Brandon, which was the worst place to take photos because his keyboards obstruct the view. When I was moving to the other side of the stage the allotted time for taking photos was over and the area had to be cleared. I was able to get a couple of photos right though.)

Hey Arjan,

No luck on viewing the Killers photos... it says the page is private.

thanks arjan for the wonderful and detailed review. from what i heard from others, this show was beyond amazing. you're so lucky to have had the chance to see it for yourself. the killers are indeed ready for bigger venues, and perhaps wembley stadium sooner than we expect. and i hope sam's town gets the praise it truly deserves.
