Stream the New Killers Single

Check out an audio stream of The Killer's "Bones" that was chosen as the group's new single after the successful run of "When You Were Young." The video for the song was directed by Tim Burton and is scheduled to premier on mtv.com/mtv during primetime sometime this week. (UPDATE, October 16: A rep of the band who initially gave me the heads up about the video premiere told me today the video might not air this week. No reason was given. I will keep you posted with more details and confirmation.)

The song is very Killers kitsch, combining Brandon Flower's sparkling synths and Dave Koenings hooky guitar licks with some horns to create a fun, brassy effect. It is very Vegas, really. Flowers' vocals delivery remind me of The Cure's Robert Smith and even a young Roy Orbison. Especially about a minute and half into the song where Flowers reaches a climax and enters vocally challenging territory.

In a recent interview with Jane magazine, Flowers was asked about the craziest place he ever had sex. He answered, "A rental car in Savannah, Georgia. In the middle of touring we had a week off. I have a problem with flying so instead of going home, my wife came to me and we rented a car and drove around. Just pulled off on some dirt road." I imagine the song is "a cinematic vision" of a steamy sex romp (or lack thereof) inspired by an experience like this.

My God! This is crap... Why is this band so famous? Why? I don't get them. Cheesy production and cheesier 7th grade lyrics and pompous "stadium" like effects make this truly cringe-inducing. This sounds NOTHING like Robert Smith or Roy Orbinson, and saying so is an insult to both.
