French delicate pop and American funky beats, what could be a better combination? Tahiti 80 is an English-language French pop group who hired Neal Pogue and Serban Ghenea, respectively Outkast’s and NERD’s sound engineers, to both mix their latest album "Fosbury." The result is an inspired, soulful brew with catchy beats and grooves that doesn't sound particularly French, but is more reminiscent of what you hear on U.S. radio.

Tahiti 80 got their name from a slogan on one of those hip vintage t-shirts. Released in 2005, "Fosbury" is the group's third and most recent album. The disc will officially be released in the U.S. by The Milita Group on November 14. The group already has had a considerable amount of success, especially in Japan were the album went double gold. "Fosbury" takes its cues from hip hop acts like Kelis and Outkast, but also from '80s pop like New Order versus Curtis Mayfield soul.

Check out the video for the group's first U.S. single "Changes" that was directed by Jonas Odell who also shot Madonna's "Music." Also, download a mix by Simian Mobile Disco who turned Tahiti 80's "Here Comes The Young" into a bleepy electronic inferno. (SMD remix via MySpace)
