Dance Smash: Supermode "Tell Me Why"

Savvy Swedish production duo Supermode (aka DJs Axwell and Steve Angello) have turned Bronski Beats' 1984 gay classic "Small Town Boy" into a pumping Eurodance tune that they have retitled "Tell Me Why." The song features Jimmy Sommerville's instantly recognizable and emotion-laden falsetto vocals that haven't aged much over the past twenty-two years.

"Small Town Boy" was one of the first popular songs that brought the issue of homophobia to the mainstream spotlight. The song is a striking tale of a boy who was cast away from home for being gay. The video for the tune shows Sommerville running away from home, trying to make friends at a swimming pool and being attacked by a homophobic gang after which he is returned home to the police.

The reinvention of this song by Supermode can inspire a whole new generation of young gays and others to be strong and make a stand again homophobia and violence against gays. The video for "Tell Me Why" has nothing to do with this theme, but it is the song, its legacy and the lyrcis that matter.
