Video Premiere: Lo-Fi-Fnk "Steppin' Out"

Finally. Arjan Writes faves Lo-Fi-Fnk have released a video for their new single "Steppin' Out" that is taken from their debut album "Boylife," which is hands down one of the best pop albums of 2006. The animated footage of wild animals in a forest captures the theme of song well. And the owl shooting laser beams is priceless.

"Steppin' Out" is a song about tolerance, friendship and understanding. I believe that this is a track about coming out with lyrics like "I think you should tell us. Don't you think we noticed? We just want you to be straight up. We're gonna defend your pride now."

As I wrote earlier, lyrics can be interpreted in different ways, but I like to believe that the guys from Lo-Fi-Fnk are stepping up for tolerance. Musically, "Steppin' Out" is a catchy hybrid of '80 styled electro pop and down-beat dance rhythms that give the song a very nocturnal feel. Its slightly abrasive intro serves as an alarm that causes you to sit up and listen.

Hey, it's like Dangerous Muse before the gym, airbrushing, and... budget. :) I like it.
