Free Download: Lady Sovereign "Random"
Def Jam chief Jay-Z has a new muse and her name is Lady Sovereign. The rapper turned music mogul recently signed the British grime MC to his label and is preparing a grand entry to the U.S. market in 2007. For now, we'll have to do with work that she has already put out in Britain and that got her noticed in the first place.
Lady Sovereign, aka Louise Harman, grew up in the council estate of North London where she learned to survive street-style among crime, drugs and broken families. Hoodie up, she follows in the footsteps of garage MC Dizzee Rascal who came from a similar background and shot to fame a couple of years ago. Lady Sovereign, who calls herself a white midget, counts Gwen Stefani, Outkast and Bloc Party as some of her influenced.
Late 2005, she put out the EP "Vertically Challenged" that delivered some modest hit singles including the peppy "Random." It is a dynamic piece of work that not only shows off Lady Sovereign's ability to spit out out fierce rhymes, but also her talent to put together some hot production bells & whistles on her beloved Mac G4 and Roland Jupiter-4.
